Week 15: Smokey Lilac

Getting dolled up for the Glitterati Prive event was a lot of fun because I don’t get many opportunities to wear heavy makeup. Well, I do actually, but doing a smokey look takes me fifteen minutes longer because of all the blending I have to do, and sometimes I just don’t have the time for it. I made sure that I did on Wednesday though!

To match the deep blue-violet color of my dress, I did a smokey eye from the same color family using a lilac shadow from the Kat Von D Memento Mori palette. The shadow ended up looking more periwinkle in the photos though; upon closer inspection, I realized that this particular color has periwinkle shimmer that stands out under the flash.

Eyes:
Kat Von D eyeshadow in Solitude (from the Memento Mori palette)
Urban Decay eyeshadow in Oil Slick (from the Eyeshadow Ammo palette)
MAC Fluidline in Blacktrack
Urbay Decay 24/7 liner in Zero
Maybelline Cat Eyes Mascara

Face:
MAC Studio Fix foundation in NC42
Ellana Mineral Foundation in Cinnamon Latte
NARS Blush in Orgasm

Lips:
Revlon Super Lustrous lipstick in Ginger Rose

OK, question: how do you avoid fallout with dark eye make-up?

    • Lauren says:

What brush do you use? I think fallout is largely due to the brush and the way you apply it. When I first started, my only eyeshadow brush was the fluffy one from ELF. I’d swipe it all over my lids and it would cause fallout galore. Then I got proper brush set and noticed that the stiff eyeshadow brushes caused very minimal fallout, and no fallout at all if I pat the shadow on instead of swiping it. If all else fails, just get rid of the fallout with a cotton bud dipped in makeup remover, then reapply your foundation. :)

      • Mara says:

Oh, the really fluffy eyeshadow brush from my Suesh set. Maybe it has to do with my application technique, too. Usually when I’m in a hurry, I just swipe everything in one go. Hence, fallout.

I read a tutorial about putting white eyeshadow under your eyes so if eyeshadow gets there, you can just blend. But it doesn’t really work for me.

Anyway, I will try your suggestions! Thanks!
